Alabama ALREADY has among the highest liquor
taxes in the nation.

Stop the Backdoor Liquor Tax

  • The ABC Board has proposed an increase in the wholesale and retail markup (price) of bottles of liquor to 35%.
  • The markup does not meet the regulatory requirements of conditions that  warrant a price increase.
  • Money from the increase has been earmarked in the budget to fund the district attorneys and courts.
  • This should not be allowed to be done by the ABC Board, it is a backdoor tax and usurps the taxing authority of the legislature.

ACTION TO TAKE TODAY: 4/24/17

We lost the initial phase of our strategy in committee last week when SB 323 died due to a tie vote .  We now must move forward with a multi-prong approach.  We must send letters to the ABC Board objecting to the increase and contact the Senate General Fund committee to ensure the appropriation is not included in the budget.

We have set up action alerts to assist you with taking action.
  •  Click to send comment letter to ABC Board.
  •  Click to contact Senate General Fund Committee
